How the travertine look is made
The finish is built in layers. A base coat sets the body colour. A second coat is troweled, then pulled and dragged to open the surface into the characteristic pitting and horizontal banding. A final pass knocks the surface back to a honed, unfilled or lightly filled look depending on the reference, and a sealer locks it in. Direction matters: we can run the banding horizontally for a vein-cut read or work it more randomly for a cross-cut read. Colour ranges through classic ivory and cream to silver, noce, walnut and warm grey, all mixed from mineral pigment and approved on a sample board.

Can plaster really look like travertine?
Yes. Travertino is one of the oldest Venetian plaster techniques and it exists precisely to imitate the stone. The pitting, banding and tonal variation are worked into a lime and marble plaster by hand. Up close it reads as stone; in the hand it is warmer and slightly softer than the real thing.
How much does a travertine look wall cost compared to real travertine?
It depends on the area, the substrate and the level of detail, so we quote from drawings or a site visit. As a rule the plaster version costs a fraction of a slab wall once you include fabrication, engineered support and installation, and it is usually less than a tiled wall of equivalent quality once grout, substrate and sealing are counted.
Can the travertine look go on a curved wall, a column or a range hood?
Yes, and that is where it makes the most sense. Real travertine has to be cut and jointed around those shapes. The plaster is troweled on as one continuous surface.
Does it stain or etch like real travertine?
No. Real travertine is calcium carbonate and etches with anything acidic. The plaster is sealed, so wine, citrus and cleaning products wipe off.
