Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Yes, venetian plaster and all of our other decorative finishes can go on most surfaces like drywall, MDF boards, countertops, and floors. Basically anything that can be primed is an adequate surface for our artisanal finishes.
Venetian plaster is not marble, but it is made from marble dust mixed with slaked lime putty. When applied in multiple thin layers and burnished, it creates a stunning depth and luminosity that closely resembles natural marble. The technique originated in ancient Rome and Venice, where artisans developed methods to mimic the look of polished marble at a fraction of the cost and weight.
Our process begins with a free consultation where we visit your space, discuss your vision, and show you physical samples of different finishes. Once you’ve chosen your finish and colour, we provide a detailed quote based on surface area and complexity. After approval, our team prepares the surfaces, applies multiple layers of your chosen finish over several days, and completes a final burnish or seal. We handle everything from start to finish, leaving your space clean and transformed.
Absolutely. We bring a curated selection of physical finish samples to every consultation — including Venetian plaster, limewash, microcement, and metallic options in a variety of colours. You can see and feel the textures firsthand in your own space and lighting conditions. We can also create custom sample boards in your chosen colour for a small fee, which is credited back to your project if you proceed.
Pricing varies based on the finish type, complexity of the surface, preparation required, and total square footage. Limewash finishes generally start at a lower price point, while polished Venetian plaster and microcement are at the premium end. We provide detailed, transparent quotes after an in-person consultation so there are no surprises. Every project is custom, and we work with a range of budgets to find the right solution for your space.

Yes, we do! Microcement is our recommended finish for shower interiors and wet areas. It creates a seamless, waterproof surface that’s both beautiful and functional. For bathroom walls outside the direct water zone, Venetian plaster with a proper sealer is also an excellent option. We’ll assess your specific bathroom layout during the consultation and recommend the best approach for lasting results.
We provide detailed quotes after an in-person consultation. During the visit, we assess the surfaces, measure the square footage, discuss your preferred finish and colour, and evaluate any preparation work needed. Our quotes are transparent and itemized, so you know exactly what you’re paying for. There’s no obligation, and we’re happy to answer any questions before you decide to move forward.
Both are lime-based finishes, but they produce very different results. Venetian plaster is applied in multiple layers with a steel trowel and burnished to create a smooth, polished surface — ranging from satin to high-gloss marble effects. Limewash is a thinner application brushed on in layers, producing a soft, chalky, matte finish with beautiful natural colour variation. Both are eco-friendly and breathable, making them ideal for Ottawa’s climate.
Most residential projects take between 3 to 5 days, depending on the scope and finish type. A single feature wall can often be completed in 1–2 days, while a full room or multiple surfaces may take longer. Microcement floors and wet-area applications require additional curing time. We always provide a timeline estimate during your consultation so you can plan accordingly.
Yes, with the right sealer. Venetian plaster can be sealed to resist moisture, making it an excellent choice for bathroom walls, kitchen backsplashes, and powder rooms. For shower interiors and areas with direct water contact, we recommend microcement, which is fully waterproof when properly sealed. We’ll recommend the best finish for each area of your Ottawa home during the consultation.
Venetian plaster is remarkably durable — it actually hardens over time as the lime continues to carbonate. A properly applied and sealed finish can last decades without needing to be redone. It resists cracking better than standard paint and drywall compounds, and minor scuffs can often be buffed out. For high-traffic commercial spaces, we apply additional protective sealers for maximum longevity.
Venetian plaster is low-maintenance. For regular cleaning, simply dust with a soft cloth or use a lightly damp microfiber cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals. Sealed surfaces can be wiped down with mild soap and water. The finish naturally resists mould and mildew due to its alkaline lime composition, making it particularly well-suited to Ottawa’s humid summers.
